Celebrities criticized for promoting smoking at Met Gala 2017 by Cancer Expert

Bill Batt, National Director of Tobacco Control Programs at the American Lung Association expressed his total disappointment at some
celebrities who endorse smoking at the Met Gala 2017 while posing for different selfie shot in the bathroom. The event (Met Gala) was meant to celebrate fashion and not endorsing smoking as an habit in social gathering.

Hollywood celebrities, despite knowing fully the implication of tobacco smoking and its health risk, still decided to ignored it and posed for pictures with cigarettes dangling from their mouths and fingertips.

According to research, smoking can lead to lung cancer, clogged arteries and shortens life expectancy. Younger people or teens may be encouraged or influenced to pick up the habit of smoking cigarette when they see their celebrities doing it, Batt says. He also added that with young women, smoking can prevent pregnancy and cause issues maintaining carrying a baby to full term.

According to Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, tobacco use kills more than 480,000 people every year in the United State than AIDS, alcohol, car accidents, illegal drugs, murders and suicides combined.
